Radiology, also known as diagnostic imaging, is a group of tests that take pictures or images of various body parts.
The field is divided into two branches: diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology, both of which use radiant energy to diagnose and treat diseases. While there are numerous imaging exams, some of the most common are x-rays, MRIs, ultrasounds, CT scans, and PET scans.
A radiologist will examine the results of an imaging test to identify a relevant image that evaluates and supports a diagnosis. Following the completion of imaging tests on a patient, radiologists will provide reports with their interpretations to the referring clinical doctors.
