About Orthopedics Department

Orthopaedics is a speciality that focuses on the diagnosis, correction, prevention, and treatment of patients who have pathology in skeletal and associated structures, which are disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and skin.

ORTHOPEDIC TRAUMA CARE

TRAUMA CARE involves the management of fractures. These are most often caused due to road traffic accidents or as a result of falls. The fracture is usually splinted as a first aid measure followed by X – Rays to confirm the size, severity and nature of the fracture. After which the decision is taken whether to treat the fracture conservatively utilizing a POP (Plaster of Paris) or Fiberglass plaster slab or cast or to treat it with surgery.

Orthopedic trauma surgery involves the use of plates, screws and nails and other specialized implants and equipment to reduce and fix broken bones and restore the normal function of the involved limb. Surgeries include Open Reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), Closed Reduction and Internal Fixation (CRIF), bone grafting and bone transport, Limb lengthening, lower limb joint reconstruction

JOINT REPLACEMENT

JOINT REPLACEMENT is a subspecialty of Orthopedics that deals with the replacement of degenerated joints in the body. Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis usually cause a debilitating restriction of movement and pain in joints such as the knee and hip. This severely affects daily activities in the elderly population and they require treatment initially medically and later on may require a joint replacement surgery such as a Total Knee Replacement or a Total Hip Replacement.

These surgeries produce excellent results and return of function in the knee and hip joint. Sometimes replacement is also taken up for traumatic conditions. Our team at MB Hospitals has been trained at the best joint replacement centres and performs

ARTHROSCOPY(KEY HOLE SURGERY)

ARTHROSCOPY(KEY HOLE SURGERY) is a subspecialty of Orthopedics that deals with surgeries such as ACL(Anterior Cruciate Ligament) repair, PCL(Posterior Cruciate Ligament) repair and management of Meniscal tears in knee and tear of rotator cuff tendon, recurrent dislocations, an impingement in the shoulder.

This involves a minimally invasive keyhole surgery where a camera with a scope is passed into the joint and ports are used to repair/reconstruct the damaged ligaments and tissues.

PEDIATRIC ORTHOPEDICS

PEDIATRIC ORTHOPEDICS involves treatment of deformities of bones in children such as Congenital Talipes Equino Varus (CTEV) or club foot, DDH, Limb lengthening and Deformity Correction, Paediatric Musculoskeletal Infections, Developmental disorders like Perthes and SCFE (Slipped capital femoral epiphysis), Cerebral Palsy, Complicated fractures and Dislocations
